Beginning Again

A snap from my last late-night walk around Paradise Pond. A little wish.
A snap from my last late-night walk around Paradise Pond. A little wish.

Well, it's been almost a month since I graduated from Smith, and I’ve been filled with so much inspiration… and just as much uncertainty. I'm back home in Greensboro for now, soaking up the sun I missed during those cold Massachusetts winters.

The idea for this section, Between Lines, came from a little habit I’ve had since I was eight. I write everything down: poem lines, song lyrics that keep me going, quotes from my friends and family (big shoutout to Abby, my old roommate and eternal source of inspiration, even though she’s still up at the top of the East Coast).

To kind of illustrate the chaos: when I was thirteen, I covered every inch of my bedroom wall with loose-leaf pages filled with song lyrics I loved (and still love) and early poems of my own. In one night, mind you. (I think my mom was horrified and impressed at the same time.)

So, this space is a continuation of that practice. A digital archive—not just for the polished work, but for the thoughts, fragments, and everyday moments that shape it. When I worked in the archives at Smith, I loved tracing the connections between a writer’s journals and their finished work. That intimacy, that messy, beautiful process—it felt like magic to me.

I guess that’s what I want Between Lines to be. A quiet record. A weekly rhythm. A space to keep track of where the poems come from, where the music begins, and all the little things in between.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back here every week with something—however small or scattered—to mark the time that’s passed, and what I’ve done in between. <3
